Frequently Asked Questions on Substance & Drug Recovery

What is LGBTQ+ drug recovery coaching?

LGBTQ+ drug recovery coaching is a non-judgmental queer space where individuals can explore and change their relationship with substances (drugs and/or alcohol). Coaching offers tools, structure, and accountability whether you want to reduce use, reduce harms, aim for sobriety, or just better understand your habits.

What kinds of drugs do you have experience with?

I've coached clients with issues with crystal meth, GHB/GBL, mephadrone or other cathinones, ketamine, ecstasy, crack, cocaine, poppers, opiods, benzos and alcohol.

Why is LGBTQ-specific support important for drug recovery?

Queer people often face unique challenges such as trauma, shame, rejection, identity issues or isolation. LGBTQ-specific coaching recognises these complications and creates space to priortise your health, rebuild confidence and find connections that don't rely on substances.

Can coaching help with chemsex and party drug use?

Yes. Coaching offers multiple recovery pathways from harm reduction to sobriety. It can help you create strategies for lapse and relapse, explore emotional patterns, set boundaries, and create healthier habits without shame or stigma.

Is this coaching only for people who want to quit drugs?

Not at all. Coaching meets you where you are — whether you’re sober-curious, exploring moderation or ready to stop. We'll work together to define your goals and build a plan that supports your health, well-being and values.

How does drug use affect LGBTQ+ mental health?

Substance use can mask or worsen anxiety, depression, trauma or loneliness, which already impact LGBTQ+ communities disproportionately. It can also interact with medications for these conditions, making them less effective. Coaching can help you cope in healthier ways and prioritise your mental health.

What if I’m not sure I have a ‘problem’ with drugs?

You don’t need a diagnosis to get support. If your drug use is impacting what's expected of you in your day-to-day life or your relationships, self-worth, work, sex life, or mood, then it maybe time to get support.
