K use is escalating amongst LGBT+ and others. Here’s what you need to know.

Use is rising in some cities and communities

Passing of Drag Race UK winner, The Vivienne, has sparked new conversations about its dangers.

Seen as “less risky” as many don’t realise long-term dangers like bladder or mental health risk.

Use is escalating in several countries including Belgium, Netherlands & UK where traces of K have increased up to 85% in wastewater tests.

Used for its dissociative and psychedelic effects

K is widely used recreationally for its dissociative and psychedelic effects.

It’s either a powder️, liquid , or pills, and can be snorted or swallowed with effects lasting between 45 minutes and 2 hours depending on dose

☠️ Causes serious health complications

* Loss of coordination, nausea, stomach cramps hallucinations, memory blackouts & injury.
* Increased blood pressure, heart rate & breathing issues
* Depression, memory loss, paranoia and risk of dependence
* Tolerance can increase quickly, needing higher doses
* K interacts badly with alcohol or depressants.
* Severe long-term bladder and kidney damage potentially requiring surgery.

👫 Use in a safe environment with people you know

* Take a little & slowly. K can be unpredictable. taking too much causes an unpleasant k-hole.
* Make sure you’re in a good mental state. K can exaggerate those feelings.
* Avoid food 90 minutes before. This will make you less likely to feel sick and vomit.
* Don’t share snorting apparatus.
* Use infrequently & with trusted friends. Avoid high tolerance and dependence. Use with trusted people who can help in a crisis.
* Don’t be afraid to call for help 🚑

🫶🏻 Take precautions and avoid long-term use

* Take regular use breaks. Reduces risk of bladder & mental health issues
* Track your use. Notice triggers or patterns before they spiral.
* Stay hydrated. Protect your bladder & kidneys.
* Talk about it. Get support or help before things get worse
